Historic Interior Restoration & Adaptive Reuse Study
Based on extensive historical research and architectural forensics, Preservation Matters
recreated how Holt House appeared when it was first completed in the early 1800s.
Balancing the need to restore Holt House as well as adapt it do fill present needs of the
Zoo, DC Historic Designs undertook a restoration and adaptive reuse of the house for the
Smithsonian Institution and the National Zoo.
